Essential Skills and Experience

Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, business or related field, with at least five years of proven work experience, preferably in an association environment
3.
Ability to develop membership programs and initiatives
4.
Demonstrated knowledge of marketing and communication strategies
5.
Experience with web and mobile technologies, web content management, e-mail marketing systems, social media and other membership-based communication technology
6.
Experience with association management software; preferably iMIS
7.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
8.
Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build meaningful professional relationships and persuasively communicate
9.
Excellent organizational and project management skills with a high level of attention to detail
10.
Ability to work effectively work both individually and in a small-staff, team environment

Job Summary
The Director of Membership and Marketing has primary responsibility for membership services and programming as well as marketing and communications efforts. In line with MSSA’s strategic priorities, this position oversees all aspects of the membership program, including recruitment and retention strategies, member benefits, membership processing and data management; as well as overall marketing and communications for the association. This position reports to the Executive Director; this is an exempt level position.
Responsibilities
1.
Responsible for the development, implementation and evaluation of a comprehensive annual plan for member recruitment, retention and reactivation—with measurable outcomes to meet or exceed revenue goals
2.
Utilize iMIS to oversee membership processing and track membership; including the accuracy of member records to ensure data integrity
3.
Administer membership surveys and evaluations to track membership
4.
Ability to identify, research and analyze membership trends to inform a response that translates into membership growth opportunities
5.
Develop and implement programs and services to engage members
6.
Provide support to initiatives to increase membership from populations that are missing, or are underrepresented, in our membership
7.
Ability to build, develop and maintain strategic relationships and partnerships both within and outside the association for possible sponsorship/exhibitor opportunities
8.
Provide outreach and support to regional chapters by responding to requests for support, issues that arise, attend regional meetings. Some travel required.
9.
Develop and execute comprehensive marketing plans and communication strategies for the association; this includes advertising, promotions, press management, published communications, social media efforts and other public-facing communication programs through a variety of mediums
10.
Track and report on communication analytics to take steps to improve the organization’s overall communication and marketing plans
11.
Direct and design internal and external branding initiatives throughout the organization, including style and communication guides.
12.
Oversee the design, content and management of the association’s website
13.
Develop creative concepts and translate them into succinct and effective copy for email, web and print marketing efforts for educational programs and member benefits
14.
Recognize and promote members for accomplishments via social media and other media channels
15.
Represent MSSA in professional organizations and at professional and community meetings and events as requested.
16.
Prepares annual membership and marketing budgets
17.
Serve as the staff liaison to assigned committees
18.
Assist with conferences and events as needed
19.
Support the agency’s strategic plan, goals and objectives through additional responsibilities as assigned

Compensation and Benefits
$48,480-$72,720 is the salary range for this position, dependent on qualifications and experience. MSSA offers a comprehensive benefits package including short- and long-term disability and life insurance, health and dental, and retirement.
