MSSA Day at the Capitol

10:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Advocate with MSSA at our second annual Day at the Capitol! This event is an opportunity to meet your lawmakers, get to know the State Capitol, and advocate for MSSA’s 2024 legislative agenda. Gather with other advocates from across Minnesota at the State Capitol to learn, explore, and meet with your lawmakers! MSSA will help set up meetings with lawmakers for all registrants. MSSA will also provide an orientation session, assistance with navigating the Capitol complex, and support during your meetings with lawmakers (and lunch!).

Frequently Asked Questions

How much walking is involved? What does accessibility look like at the Capitol?
The distance between MSSA's office and the Capitol building is approximately 0.3 miles. You will be going to and from meetings in other buildings from our reserved room at the Capitol. There are elevators on each floor of the Capitol which we will take as a group. There are also accessibly options for scooters, wheelchairs, and other forms of transportation. Let us know if you need help preparing your transportation around the Capitol complex for the day, or if you would like to carpool with other attendees who would prefer to drive between MSSA's office and the Capitol.

What if my meetings with legislators are done early?
If your meetings are done early, you may leave for the day. An MSSA staff member will always be present in our Capitol meeting room. Please ask an MSSA staff if you need help with transportation back to MSSA's office. You may also participate in our scavenger hunt (more info to come) or join a Capitol tour!

Will I meet my lawmaker alone?
At least one MSSA staff member will be present with you at your meeting. If there are other attendees from the same Senate District as you, everyone from your Senate District will meet with your lawmaker as a group. Additionally, MSSA staff will help you find your way around the Capitol complex. We're here to support you!

Do I need to wear a mask/provide proof of vaccination?
Masking is optional at MSSA's office and at the Capitol complex, and we will not require proof of vaccination.

What should I wear?
Dress how you would feel comfortable talking to your lawmakers. There is no dress code, but generally, most folks at the Capitol do not wear jeans.
