Essential Skills and Experience 
1. Strong commitment to MSSA’s mission, values, and purpose
2. Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, business or related field, with at least five years of proven work experience, preferably in an association environment 
3. Ability to develop membership programs and initiatives 
4. Demonstrated knowledge of marketing and communication strategies 
5. Experience with web and mobile technologies, web content management, e-mail marketing systems, social media and other membership-based communication technology
6. Experience with association management software; preferably iMIS 
7. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
8. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build meaningful professional relationships and persuasively communicate
9. Excellent organizational and project management skills with a high level of attention to detail
10. Ability to work effectively work both individually and in a small-staff, team environment 

Desired Qualifications
1. Familiarity with, and passion for improving Minnesota’s health and human service system
2. Experience with Adobe Creative Suite

Job Summary 
The Director of Membership and Marketing has primary responsibility for membership services and programming as well as marketing and communications efforts. In line with MSSA’s strategic priorities, this position oversees all aspects of the membership program, including recruitment and retention strategies, member benefits, membership processing and data management; as well as overall marketing and communications for the association. This position reports to the Executive Director; this is an exempt level position. 

Responsibilities 
1. Responsible for the development, implementation and evaluation of a comprehensive annual plan for member recruitment, retention and reactivation—with measurable outcomes to meet or exceed revenue goals 
2. Utilize iMIS to oversee membership processing and track membership; including the accuracy of member records to ensure data integrity
3. Administer membership surveys and evaluations to track membership 
4. Ability to identify, research and analyze membership trends to inform a response that translates into membership growth opportunities 
5. Develop and implement programs and services to engage members 
6. Provide support to initiatives to increase membership from populations that are missing, or are underrepresented, in our membership 
7. Ability to build, develop and maintain strategic relationships and partnerships both within and outside the association for possible sponsorship/exhibitor opportunities 
8. Provide outreach and support to regional chapters by responding to requests for support, issues that arise, attend regional meetings. Some travel required. 
9. Develop and execute comprehensive marketing plans and communication strategies for the association; this includes advertising, promotions, press management, published communications, social media efforts and other public-facing communication programs through a variety of mediums 
10. Track and report on communication analytics to take steps to improve the organization’s overall communication and marketing plans 
11. Direct and design internal and external branding initiatives throughout the organization, including style and communication guides.
12. Oversee the design, content and management of the association’s website 
13. Develop creative concepts and translate them into succinct and effective copy for email, web and print marketing efforts for educational programs and member benefits 
14. Recognize and promote members for accomplishments via social media and other media channels  
15. Represent MSSA in professional organizations and at professional and community meetings and events as requested. 
16. Prepares annual membership and marketing budgets 
17. Serve as the staff liaison to assigned committees 
18. Assist with conferences and events as needed 
19. Support the agency’s strategic plan, goals and objectives through additional responsibilities as assigned

Compensation and Benefits
$48,480-$72,720 is the salary range for this position, dependent on qualifications and experience. MSSA offers a comprehensive benefits package including short- and long-term disability and life insurance, health and dental, and retirement.

3. Working knowledge and understanding of the legislative process and Minnesota’s political landscape 
4. Experience with grassroots/community organizing and outreach 
5. Ability to leverage issues and current events to organize and inspire a grassroots movement capable of having political influence 
6. Excellent interpersonal skills; the ability to persuasively communicate and build meaningful professional relationships with legislators, staff and members of the administration, MSSA members and other key partners 
7. Demonstrated ability to analyze and synthesize complex legislative information 
8. Ability to develop and maintain partnerships and coalitions 
9. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
10. Effective public speaker 
11. Excellent organizational and project management skills with a high level of attention to detail
12. Ability to work effectively both individually and in a small-staff, team environment

2. Master of public policy or public administration 
3. Non-profit experience preferred 
4. Experience utilizing advocacy software 

Job Summary 
The Director of Public Policy and Advocacy has primary responsibility for implementing, overseeing and evaluating MSSA’s public policy and advocacy program. In line with MSSA’s strategic priorities, this position oversees all aspects of the public policy and advocacy program including development of the legislative agenda, mobilization of MSSA’s membership, developing relationships with legislators and partners, legislative tracking, and public policy communications. This position reports to the Executive Director, this is an exempt level position. 

Responsibilities 
1. Responsible for the implementation, oversight and evaluation of MSSA’s public policy and advocacy program
2. Shape and drive MSSA’s legislative agenda 
3. Build grassroots engagement through working with the board of directors, executive committee, public policy committee, regional leadership, member groups and community partners 
4. Build, grow and mobilize MSSA’s membership to become grassroots advocates around the legislative agenda and public policy priorities 
5. Develop and provide advocacy trainings and tool kits to engage and mobilize potential advocates 
6. Motivate and engage grassroot advocates through email, text, phone calls, videos and other methods 
7. Identify potential grasstops advocates and cultivate relationships to advance MSSA’s legislative agenda 
8. Monitor legislative activity and quickly update members on relevant issues through regular communications such as email, quarterly newsletter, website, fact sheets, positions statements, action alerts, social media and other tools
9. Select and maintain a database of member involvement to track and report on outreach, messaging and mobilization tactics 
10. Support MSSA regions and members by assisting with hosting legislators, candidates, and local officials through meetings, conferences and listening sessions
11. Develop advocacy strategies and oversee day to day management of advocacy campaigns designed to achieve policy objectives using letter writing, lobby days, petition drives, etc. 
12. Stays informed of legislative trends, issues and current events, especially those with a focus on health and human services 
13. Support the development of annual public policy positions through research
14. Create and maintain a budget for all public policy programming  
15. Work with MSSA’s contract lobbyist to strategize ways to move MSSA’s legislative agenda forward
16. Represent MSSA on task forces, coalitions and committees 
17. Serve as the staff liaison to assigned committees 
18. Assist with conferences and events as needed 
19. Support the agency’s strategic plan, goals and objectives through additional responsibilities as assigned
